I had some old t-shirts that I loved but either no longer fit or had some sort of stain on them. The fabric has that soft, worn-in feel to it so I decided that they would be perfect for re-purposing into little sun dresses for my daughter. I just found a dress that I liked the fit of and lined it up with the bottom hem of the shirt and cut about 1/2" bigger around the other sides. Then I sewed up the sides and the shoulders. Since it is a knit, you don't have to worry about it fraying so I just left the neck and arm holes raw.
This was the first one that I made and it is made out of a shirt that I actually wore when I was pregnant with her.
I made the second one a little longer and I think that it's wide enough that as she grows, we will be able to use it as a tank top instead of a dress.
Here is another one of her wearing the first one just for fun.

Thank you Kara and thanks for stopping by !
Very cute idea. She is adorable.
This is such a cute idea! I would love for you to share this at my link party going on now http://thewinthropchronicles.blogspot.com/2012/07/share-it-link-party-19.html
What a great idea! Good thing about little girls is a dress one year will be a top the next. Makes all the effort put into making clothes all worth it. Great to see a little cloth diaper on her too! www.ourhomespunhaven.blogspot.com
Thank you everyone!
Kat, I love the thought that I will get so much use out of the clothes I am making. I am hoping to try a few more t-shirt makeovers and hope to try one with sleeves. One of the many things I love about cloth diapers is how cute they are and how you can just have a diaper on and feel as though they are more dressed than if they just had a disposable on. I can match them to her outfits and there is no need for bloomers!
Cute idea, they came out great!
So sweet! Great use for old t-shirts. If you have a photo of yourself wearing the shirt when you were pregnant, it would be cool to put it in a double frame of some sort with a picture of your daughter wearing the dress made from the same shirt :)
Thank you! Kate, you now have me on the hunt for a picture of me wearing one of these shirts. I don't know why I didn't think of doing that myself. I hope I can find one, I would love to put the pictures side by side. Thank you again for the idea!
Too, too, too cute!!! And that's just the T-shirt. What an adorable little model!
